Greys Platinum X Comp floating fly line 27.4 m [9 g, 11.6 m] 2-4#

Description

Greys Platinum X fly lines have a range of models that consistently place your fly in the right zone. Standard floating lines are designed in a three-color format with a medium-length head and a full-size heavy design that allows all anglers to fully exploit modern fast-action fly rods while retaining finesse. The smooth, slick coating has low memory with excellent handling feel and a low running line diameter. Also available as a midge-tip with a short intermediate tip section, ideal for nymph fishing and fishing just below the surface with "washing line tactics." All sinking models in the Platinum X series of fly lines are two-colored with an intermediate density running line and an aggressive full-size heavy distance casting taper, ideal for both boat and shore fishing. For the technical fly fisherman, there is also a unique two-tapered WF line available. It features a delicate 9g extended WF profile that can be reversed and used as a level Euro Nymph line complete with an indicator monofilament core and mounted micro ring.

Fly fishing
Family

Refers to which product family the product belongs to. In many cases, there are matching reels and rods within the same product family. These items are designed to work together.

Line class (fly fishing)

The number on the line class determines the fly line’s weight, in other words, how powerful the fly rod you’re using is. That’s why the intended rod’s line class determines which line class you should choose for the rest of your gear, like the fly reel and line. A fly rod in line class 3 (#3) is a lighter rod for smaller waters and smaller fish. A fly rod in class 9 (#9) is a heavier rod designed to handle larger flies and bigger fish. When matching fly fishing gear, ensure the line, reel, and rod are of the same class. The best-selling fly fishing gear in Sweden is a 9-foot rod in class 5 with a class 5 floating line (WF) and a matching reel.

Class 2, Class 3, Class 4
Fly line floating property

The floating property of the fly line determines how the fly will be fished. An intermediate or sinking fly line sinks, pulling the fly down to the desired depth. A floating line, as the name suggests, floats on the water surface, keeping the fly in the upper water layer.

Line length

There are quite a few options for what length of line to choose. To make it a bit easier, here’s a short explanation.

  • 0-50 meters: here you’ll find tippet material, backing, and fly lines.
  • 100-200 meters: this is the average length a single fishing reel typically holds.
  • 200-300 meters: here you’ll find spools of line for two reels.
  • 300 meters and more: for when you need to fill multiple reels with line.
