Starting to fish with a rod is very simple and all you need to get started is a fishing rod with a line and some worms. However, for the avid angler, rod fishing offers incredibly many exciting challenges and a plethora of fishing gear needed to cover all fishing situations.
Buying a Fishing Rod
To start rod fishing, a telescopic fishing rod between 3-5 meters is perfect. For children or if you fish in smaller waters like streams or rivers, a 3-meter rod is a good choice. Otherwise, a length of 4-5 meters is the most common purchase. These fishing rods are available very cheap and work perfectly for typical rod fishing for species like perch. Double-check when purchasing whether a line is included or if it needs to be bought separately. If you buy a line, you should choose one that is approximately the same length as the rod. Another tip is to buy extra hooks as these are easily lost or become dull after a few fishing trips. For the more advanced rod fisher, there are several fishing rods that are specialized for specific species or fishing situations.
