My fishing line breaks?

The tip-top is the most sensitive part of the fishing rod and it is not uncommon for the ceramic inside the tip-top to break. This can be a consequence of hitting the rod tip against something hard or winding the leader or the lure lock through the tip-top. Even though the ceramic may look intact at first glance, a small crack may have occurred. This can result in a sharp edge that cuts off the line during fishing. Instead of replacing the entire rod, it often suffices to replace the tip-top.

Replacing the tip-top on a fishing rod

The easiest way to change the tip-top on a fishing rod is to heat the tip-top with a lighter. This melts the glue that holds the loop in place, and you can easily remove the rod tip with the help of pliers. Do not use your fingers as the loop can be very hot. Wipe away any glue residues and then glue on the new tip-top. You can use hot melt adhesive, which gives you some time to adjust so that the ring is straight. Alternatively, you can use regular super glue, but then you must quickly ensure that the loop is straight as the glue cures in just a few seconds.
