Start Fly Fishing

Fly fishing has grown in popularity in recent years, and more and more anglers are discovering the charm of fly fishing. Previously, fly fishing was mainly associated with fishing for species such as trout, grayling, and char, but today perch, pike, and sea trout are also common targets for the fly fisherman. It is often heard that it is quite difficult to start fly fishing. We think this is a myth and encourage everyone who is interested in trying fly fishing to buy a beginner's kit and get started. However, we must warn you, there is a risk that you will be hooked for life!

Buying Fly Fishing Gear

The easiest way if you want to start fly fishing is to buy a ready-made fly fishing kit that includes a rod, reel and line. These fly sets contain everything you need and are available in various classes and lengths to match your fishing.

Three tips for starting fly fishing:

  • Buy a ready-made set that contains everything you need and where the equipment is tailored to work perfectly together. A kit with a 9? fly rod in #5/6 with a floating line in #5/6 is a very common and good option for the new fly fisherman.
  • Start practice casting on the lawn. Before heading out on the water, you can practice your casting technique on a lawn. This allows you to fully focus on casting and familiarize yourself with your equipment. Tie a feather or a yarn ball at the end of the leader instead of a fly.
  • A pair of polarizing sunglasses should always be in the fly fishing vest. The sunglasses protect the eyes from misplaced flies and also make it easier to see fish and bottom structures.
