Buying Braided Line?

A braided line, or superline as it is sometimes called, consists of several thin fiber strands that are twisted together to form a stiff and strong line. Braided line is thinner, stronger, and softer than a monofilament (nylon and fluorocarbon), which means you can cast further, feel more bites and hook better, and the line cuts through the water better, i.e., it has less resistance in the water. The lifespan of a braided line is also significantly longer. However, the major drawback of braided line is its sensitivity to sharp surfaces, e.g., rocks and mussels on the bottom. In this case, it may be advantageous to splice on a piece of fluorocarbon, which has a much greater abrasion resistance.
